What are Dashboards?
What a dashboard is in Nalar, how the library works, and who can do what with one.
A dashboard is a saved page of metrics built from a business question. You describe what you want to monitor, Nalar finds and checks the numbers in data you can access, and you keep the result as a page you can come back to, refresh, share, and set alerts on.
Use a dashboard when you will ask the same question again. A Chat answer is right for a one-off question. A dashboard is better for numbers you check every week, like revenue against last month or overdue receivables by customer, because the metrics stay defined the same way each time you open it.
The Dashboards library
Open Dashboards in the sidebar to see every dashboard you can currently open. Switch between active and archived dashboards, and search by name.
Each card shows:
- the dashboard's title and the Agent or business area it draws from
- a headline value, when you have access to it
- how recently it was updated
- how many members it is shared with
Dashboards that are still being built appear first, then the ones you pinned, then the rest. Use Pin on the dashboards you open most.
The library only lists dashboards you have a relationship with and whose data you can access. A card never shows a value your access doesn't cover.
Who can do what
Anyone in the workspace can create a dashboard, as long as they can use at least one Agent that has the Dashboards capability. The person who creates a dashboard is its Dashboard Owner. People it is shared with are Viewers. These are relationships to one dashboard, not workspace roles.
| Role | What you can do |
|---|---|
| Dashboard Owner | Read it, ask questions in Cowork, apply changes, refresh data, set the refresh schedule, share, set alerts, rename, archive, restore, delete |
| Viewer | Read it and ask private questions in Cowork |
Being a Workspace Owner or Workspace Admin doesn't make you the Owner of someone else's dashboard. And sharing a dashboard never gives a Viewer access to data they couldn't already see. Sharing dashboards explains how that works.
A dashboard's condition
A dashboard always shows what state it is in, so you don't mistake old numbers for current ones.
| Condition | What it means |
|---|---|
| Current | The last refresh succeeded. Values show their period and data date. |
| Refreshing | New data is being fetched. |
| Stale | The values are older than they should be. |
| Build failed | The build reported an error. The page explains it and offers a rebuild. |
| Needs attention | The build stopped without a reported cause. A rebuild is offered here too. |
| Archived | Read-only. Scheduled refresh and the dashboard's alerts are paused. |
| Frozen | Required access was lost, so protected values are hidden for everyone until access is restored. |
When you start a rebuild, the button stays busy until a new result arrives. A rebuild that has started is not yet a successful one.
Archiving and deleting
The Dashboard Owner can archive a dashboard they no longer check. An archived dashboard keeps its last saved values with their original period and date, and it stops refreshing. Its alerts pause too. Restoring it doesn't fetch fresh data or turn its alerts back on by itself; refresh it and resume the alerts you still want.
Deleting a dashboard asks you to confirm first, and it also stops every alert linked to it.
Limits
- Dashboards can only be shared with members of your own workspace. There is no public link.
- Nalar never fills a gap with a sample or estimated figure presented as real data. When a number can't be checked, the dashboard says so.
