Agents and your access
Why two people can get different answers to the same question, and what decides what you can see.
Everything Nalar shows you, from a Chat answer to a dashboard, comes through an Agent. Which Agents you can use depends on your role in the workspace. Two colleagues can ask the same question and get different answers, because each answer only uses data that person is allowed to see.
How Agents are arranged
| Agent | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Master Agent | The whole workspace. There is exactly one. It routes your question to the right Agents. |
| Department Agent | One department. Every Department Agent has one Department Head. |
| Sub-agent | A narrower area inside a department. It can read the same data as its Department Agent, or less. |
The Master Agent is a router, not a key. It can send your question to any Agent you already have access to, but it never reaches an Agent you don't.
What each role can use
| Role | Agents you can use |
|---|---|
| Workspace Owner | Every Agent in the workspace |
| Workspace Admin | Every Agent in the workspace |
| Department Head | Each Department Agent they lead, and its Sub-agents |
| Staff | Only the Sub-agents granted to them |
A few details that often surprise people:
- Staff access is per Sub-agent. Access to one Sub-agent doesn't include its Department Agent or the other Sub-agents next to it.
- Staff can work across departments. A Staff member belongs to one department but can be granted Sub-agents in other departments. Their role doesn't change.
- Your department isn't your access. Which department you belong to describes where you sit in the company. What you can use is decided by your Agent grants.
- One person can lead several departments. A Department Head can use every department they lead.
Your access, everywhere in Nalar
The same rules apply in every part of Nalar: Chat, Dashboards, Automations, and WhatsApp. A feature can narrow what you see further, but it never widens it.
- A dashboard shared with you shows only the data your own access allows.
- An Automation runs with your access at the time it runs.
- In WhatsApp, Nalar answers with the same Agents you can use on the web.
When your access changes
Changes take effect right away, even if you are already signed in.
- If you lose access to an Agent, your conversations stay, but answers that came from that Agent are hidden. You can carry on with an Agent you still have.
- If you leave the workspace, you can no longer open it.
Who changes access
During the current beta, the Nalar team manages Agents and who can use them. Workspace Owners, Workspace Admins, and Department Heads can ask for a change, such as granting a Sub-agent to a teammate, and the Nalar team makes it.
