What are Agents?
What an Agent is, how Agents are arranged, and what the Agents page shows for your role.
An Agent is an AI assistant for one part of your business. Each Agent has its own data, documents, and capabilities, and every answer in Nalar comes from one. The Agents page shows which Agents you can use, how they relate to each other, and what each one can read and do.
Open Agents in the sidebar to see them.
How Agents are arranged
Agents follow the shape of your company.
| Agent | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Master Agent | The whole workspace. It routes questions across the Agents you can use. It doesn't give you access to more data. |
| Department Agent | One department, such as Finance or Sales. Each has one Department Head. |
| Sub-agent | A narrower area inside a department. It can use some or all of its Department Agent's data and capabilities, never more. |
Each Sub-agent can also have a Lead, the person responsible for it. Being a Lead is a label on the Agent, not a workspace role.
What you see depends on your role
| Role | What the Agents page shows |
|---|---|
| Workspace Owner, Workspace Admin | Every active Agent in the workspace, from the Master Agent down, as Org chart or Cards |
| Department Head | The Department Agents you lead and their Sub-agents, as Org chart or Cards |
| Staff | My Access: the Sub-agents granted to you |
You see only Agents you can use. Agents outside your access don't appear at all, not even as locked entries.
Org chart
Org chart draws the hierarchy from top to bottom: the Master Agent, then Department Agents, then their Sub-agents. Each box shows the Agent's name, its place in the hierarchy, how many Members can use it, how many Sub-agents it has, a one-line description of what it covers, and which data sources it reads.
Department Heads who lead more than one department see each department as its own branch. Department Heads don't see the Master Agent or departments they don't lead.
Select any Agent to open its details.
Cards
Cards shows the same Agents grouped into sections.
- Master shows the Master Agent's name, a description of what it covers, and a summary of the data it can reach across the workspace.
- Departments shows how many Department Agents and Sub-agents you can see. Each department card lists its Department Agent, its description, its Sub-agents, and member counts.
Select any card or Sub-agent row to open that Agent's details.
My Access
If you are Staff, the Agents page opens on My Access. It lists each Sub-agent you've been granted, which can include Sub-agents from more than one department.
Each card shows the Agent's name, its Department Agent, its Lead, your access, what it covers, and its enabled capabilities. You use these Agents through Chat, where Auto picks the right one for each question. Select Open Nalar Chat to start asking.
Select a card to see the Agent's details.
If My Access is empty, no Agent has been granted to you yet. Ask your Department Head or workspace admin to arrange it with the Nalar team.
Limits
- Agent settings are read-only. No one in your workspace can change an Agent's name, description, Department Head, capabilities, data sources, or who has access. The Nalar team makes those changes; see Requesting Agent changes.
- You can add documents. Anyone with access to an Agent can give it documents to read; see Documents for Agents.
- Seeing an Agent doesn't widen access. The Master Agent and the Agents page never give you data your role doesn't already cover.
If your workspace isn't fully set up, Workspace Owners and Admins see a message saying so, with a way to contact Nalar Support.
